In World War II, the Willow Run plant near Ypsilanti, Michigan began hiring and training spunky women who could help in the cause while the young men were off to war. These women, known as Rosie the Riveters, made history and forever changed the roles of women in our society.
Today, the National Rosie the Riveter Society honors these women with memorial rose gardens. I had the great privilege to write about two Rosies here in our town of Saline.
